Gleison Bremer signs new Torino contract but that doesn’t rule out Liverpool move

Long-term Liverpool transfer target Gleison Bremer has signed a new contract with Torino. That’s doesn’t necessarily rule out a move, however.

Torino announced on Wednesday that Gleison Bremer has agreed a new contract with the club. He’s now contracted until 2024 – a one-year extension on his previous deal.

The Brazilian has been a fantastic centre-back for Torino over the last few years. His manager Ivan Duric labelled him a ‘fundamental’ part of their side this season but he’s not expected to remain for long.

In fact, this is one for Liverpool fans to watch – there’s long-term interest there.

Liverpool look at Gleison Bremer transfer

Torino Granata reported in November that Liverpool wanted Bremer. The Reds would look at a January transfer, they said, as they hoped to take advantage of his contract situation.

With his deal set to expire in 2023, Torino would face intense pressure to sell in 2022. They wouldn’t want to lose him for free, after all. But the new contract changes things.

Torino no longer need to sell on the cheap but that doesn’t mean they won’t sell. It also doesn’t mean that Liverpool will feel put off as this is a player they’ve supposedly wanted for some time.

We wrote about their interest in a then-23-year-old Bremer back in January 2021. Liverpool were in the market for centre-backs, of course, and Bremer fit the profile.

Now, interest in Bremer won’t be as strong right now. Liverpool have four top centre-backs at the club and unless one of them moves on, there isn’t room for the Brazilian.

But perhaps someone could move on. Joe Gomez isn’t getting regular football right now, while Joel Matip is moving into his 30s. It isn’t beyond the realm of possibility that Liverpool find themselves in the market again soon.

And if that happens, we still imagine Bremer will be on their list.
