The final stages of the transfer window have been all about Luis Diaz for Liverpool. Tottenham’s interest in the Porto forward appears to have jolted The Reds into life.

Now a report from Portuguese site O Jogo claims that Diaz “will be a Liverpool player”. The report states that Liverpool have struck a £37.5m deal with the Portuguese club.

There will be a £12.5m in goal related bonuses. That would make the overall value of the transfer around the £50m mark.

That’s reportedly a similar fee to what Tottenham are discussing with Porto.

But if other reports coming out of Portugal are to be believed, the Colombian Diaz isn’t keen on a move to Spurs.

That has seemingly left the door open for Liverpool. The Reds had not been expected to complete any late signings in this window. But Tottenham’s interest seems to have panicked them into bringing their interest forward.

What can he bring to Liverpool

Diaz plays primarily on the left for Porto. He has 16 goals for the Portuguese leaders this season. The 25-year-old’s displays at last summer’s Copa America are what really caught the eye though.

One Alisson Becker was certainly impressed by what he had seen. “Luis Diaz is an excellent player, he does a lot of work for the defence, he did it in the goals of Copa America,” said Alisson to WhoScored.

He has also previously been described as a player “who can do everything” by former coaches in Colombia in the Daily Mail.

His speed and directness with the ball were on full display when Porto visited Anfield in November. He will be expected to provide competition for Sadio Mane on Liverpool’s left.

Should the Colombian sign though, he would be unable to play in Liverpool’s Champions League campaign having already featured for his current club this season.

Unexpected excitement for Liverpool fans at the end of the window, we’re all for it!
