Liverpool won 3-1 vs Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon, with three players shining, in particular. The Reds appear to have a trio that works wonderfully well together.

Liverpool saw out a 3-1 win over Crystal Palace on Sunday and while it wasn’t perfect, there was quite a bit to shout about. There was Alisson Becker, for instance, who had a fantastic game and essentially won the points for the Reds.

But in a lot of ways, that’s expected – he’s arguably the world’s best goalkeeper, after all. What’s less expected is just how well Liverpool’s left flank performed.

Andy Robertson, Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota aren’t a trio that is even supposed to play together. Jota has been a central striker more often than not this season, while Jones is behind Thiago and, arguably, Naby Keita on the left of the midfield three.

They were fantastic here, however, complementing one another wonderfully. In fact, Liverpool relied on them. The Reds played a total of 11 key passes in this game and seven came from that trio.

Robertson got three – two of which were assists – while both Jones and Jota got two each. This is where Liverpool’s creativity came from and we haven’t said that much this season.

Liverpool left dominates vs Crystal Palace

Liverpool have been incredibly reliant on their right-hand side this season. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jordan Henderson and Mohamed Salah are their primary trio, with the majority of Liverpool’s creativity coming from those three.

Now, sometimes, that works to perfection and it’s easy to see why the Reds lean into them. In fact, it’s a tactic originally made with Harvey Elliott in mind, creating a beautiful triple threat.

But it can become an overreliance and we’ve seen occasions this season where teams shut down that flank. The Robertson, Jones, Jota trio is an exciting one, then, as it could lead to similar creativity on the left.

With Elliott’s return imminent, we’d like to see Liverpool try both trios this season. Liverpool could end up with an incredibly creative, versatile team if this all clicks together.
