Kaide Gordon says he is loving the chance to work closely with Mohamed Salah at Liverpool.

The 17-year-old has had a big couple of weeks. He scored his first goal for Liverpool in the FA Cup against Shrewsbury. That was followed with a Premier League debut last weekend.

Salah is currently away with his country. But Gordon has been in and around training with the first-team since the summer.

In his first ever interview, he told liverpoolfc.com that the example set by Salah is pushing him to reach a higher level.

“It’s helped me a lot seeing him, especially because Mo plays in my position,” said the youngster. “He is the best player in the world right now, so watching him and the extras he does really helps. It pushes me to try to get onto his level.”

Gordon of course has a long way to go until he’s hitting the heights of the Egyptian. But in similar fashion to how Kelleher is learning from Alisson, training alongside a player like Salah will be invaluable to his development.

It seems that Gordon has been paying particular attention to Salah’s movement. That bodes well for Jurgen Klopp, who is committed to playing with the same system, whoever the players on the pitch are.

“The different types of positions he picks up, he scores from anywhere, he doesn’t just stay out wide, he drifts inside and things like that, so that’s definitely helped,” said Gordon.

The work that Mo does in the gym has also rubbed off on the former Derby player. Salah, along with Sadio Mane, is notorious for being first-in-last-out of the gym at the AXA Training Centre.

Gordon says the 29-year-old has already taken him for some gym sessions. “He does a lot of work in the gym and he helps me with that as well; I’ve done some sessions with him. Mo really helps.”

There’s nobody better in world football for a young player to learn from. Salah is right at the top of his game. Learning from such a model professional on and off the pitch, Gordon is in safe hands.

Kaide agrees: “I definitely couldn’t have a better role model, Mo does everything right.”
