Report: Liverpool interest in Ronald Araujo creating problems for Barcelona

Liverpool have interest in Ronald Araujo and that’s creating problems for Barcelona, according to reports. The centre-back could be on the move.

This comes from Sport. They claim Ronald Araujo could leave Barcelona and Liverpool hold an interest in the player.

But it’s a complex situation. Araujo wants to remain with Barcelona going forward, seeing it as the right place for him. However, he also wants paying like one of their best players, which is a very fair argument right now.

This is someone Xavi recently called spectacular – a 22-year-old centre-back who is one of the real bright lights at Barcelona. His contract ends in 2023, though, creating a difficult situation. If they don’t agree on a new one, Barcelona will feel intense pressure to sell this summer.

What makes things extra difficult, then, is interest from Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United. They’ll apparently pay Araujo what he wants and if Barcelona can’t match that, the player could be off.

Liverpool hold Ronald Araujo interest

There is a bit of sense here but it’s arguable how much. Liverpool currently have four centre-backs, all of whom are at the top level. Would they really compete for another one?

Araujo is at the right age to invest in, though. Few centre-backs at that age and his level become available, too – let alone with experience at a top club. Here’s one on the cheap and Liverpool could secure someone the same age as Ibrahima Konate.

That could be particularly interesting, setting up a future partnership that looks commanding on paper.

We just find it hard to believe that Liverpool are looking at centre-backs again, let alone actively discussing deals with them. Money needs spending in other areas way before adding another centre-back. So while there is some sense here, we won’t hold our breath on a potential transfer.
