Liverpool fans took to Twitter to hail Roberto Firmino for his assist vs Brentford. There are very few like the Brazilian.
Liverpool pulled off a comfortable 3-0 win over Brentford on Sunday afternoon with what turned out to be a fantastic display. The Reds lacked several key starts but still found their goals for their best performance in a little while now.
Fabinho got things going, meeting a Trent Alexander-Arnold corner for 1-0 in the first half. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain then made it 2-0 after the half after a simply magnificent cross from Andy Robertson.
And then there was the third goal. The assist here wasn’t from a wonderful cross but a one-yard pass – yet it got people talking.
Roberto Firmino set up Takumi Minamino, having won the ball back very high up the pitch. His tackle actually found Minamino, who passed it back to the Brazilian right in front of goal. But with the keeper in front of him, Firmino opted to simply shift it back for the substitute to tap home.
It was incredibly unselfish – Firmino could have easily slotted home himself. But he created a free goal for his teammate, essentially, and not many players would have taken that option.

Fans understandably loved it, of course. They felt ‘very, very few’ would have passed that ball back and Firmino really is one of the most unselfish players around.
We loved it, too. It’s a sign that Firmino is far, far more interested in the team than himself – a wonderful trait. Let alone for your no.9.
Firmino truly is one of the most unselfish players around, too. His entire game plays that way, using movement and close control to create for his other forwards. We saw it all game here – the assist was just an extreme example.
