Mikel Arteta hopes Arsenal can top the Anfield atmosphere next week vs Liverpool in the Carabao Cup. The two teams played out a 0-0 draw in the first leg.
Mikel Arteta says Arsenal will need a great atmosphere at the Emirates next week if they’re to overcome Liverpool. They’ll carry a scoreless draw from the first leg after a very, very frustrating night at Anfield.
“I’m expecting now that our fans will create an even better atmosphere than what we’ve seen today, which was really good,” he told Sky Sports. “We’re going to need them to beat a top side.”
Arteta recognises the small advantage that Arsenal have vs Liverpool next week, then. The second leg will be at the Emirates, after all, with last week’s postponement swapping home advantage for the two sides.
It’s a real shame after last night’s result and shows just what a missed opportunity the Anfield fixture was. The Reds will be kicking themselves.
Liverpool vs Arsenal
Liverpool should have won this game and they should have won it comfortably. They played the vast majority against 10 men, after all, but managed just one shot on target all game.

And that came in the final few minutes, with substitute Curtis Jones finally managing to squeeze one between defenders. Liverpool lack invention and a killer instinct, allowing Arsenal off the hook.
So instead of sending the Gunners back to a deflated Emirates next week, they’ll face a side full of drive. That’s the biggest missed opportunity here. Yes, Liverpool can still win the tie but they’ve left the door wide open.
The atmosphere at the Emirates really shouldn’t have a part to play here. Liverpool have to contend with it now, though – and that’s an unfortunate failure from Anfield.
