Kaide Gordon has had quite a week for Liverpool. The 17-year-old caught the eye playing in Mohamed Salah’s right-wing role against Shrewsbury and capped a good display with a well taken goal.
That the goal was a crucial equaliser and came at The Kop end was even more special. Jurgen Klopp called his finishing ability “exceptional” after the game and on this evidence it is hard to disagree.

Another chance may come his way this Thursday. Liverpool take on Arsenal in the Carabao Cup semi-final at Anfield. It’s a big game in Liverpool’s season as they hunt for a realistic chance of silverware.
The circumstances around The Reds asking for a postponement of the first-leg means that Anfield will be right up for it. What an opportunity it could be for Gordon to really make a name for himself.
With more established names still missing, Liverpool fans certainly think he has done enough to earn another start.
A challenge to relish for Gordon
Although he stood out on Sunday, it was largely in a forward line of Max Woltman and Curtis Jones/Elijah Dixon-Bonner. Playing alongside superstars like Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota against a strong Arsenal team is a different prospect.
Gordon won’t be fazed though. He was in the first team squad at Derby and joined Liverpool knowing that he’d be well down the pecking order initially. You don’t make a switch like that unless you’re full of self-confidence. He’ll surely be desperate for Klopp to pick him in such a big game

The fans shouldn’t expect too much though. His goal on Sunday made him the second youngest player to find the net in Liverpool history. A quick look at who is above him on that particular list will be enough for a reality check. Pretty much nothing has gone right for Ben Woodburn since.
