'Pressing monster' and 'insane' Liverpool star can create a brilliant partnership up-front for Klopp - RTK View

Diogo Jota & Roberto Firmino can be a brilliant Liverpool partnership

Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino can be a brilliant partnership for Liverpool. The two of them are now the star strikers at Anfield.

The Africa Cup of Nations is underway and that means Liverpool are short up top. That might be putting it mildly, actually, as the Reds don’t have either Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane right now.

The two of them are the most dangerous attackers at Liverpool and, quite unquestionably, two of the world’s absolute best. But Jurgen Klopp needs to find a way to get his side ticking without them. Fortunately, there’s a brilliant partnership still at the club.

Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino for Liverpool

Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino have often been alternatives to one another. Jota has carved out a decent role as a centre-forward but while there, Firmino doesn’t really have a place.

Right now, though, Klopp essentially must push Jota wide and play Firmino in his typical False 9 role. For us, it could be a perfect combination.

Stylistically, they fit perfectly While Jota has been a brilliant striker, he’s really more of a goalscorer than the link player Firmino is and that can have negative effects on Liverpool. With Firmino in that role, he will drop deep and make things easier from midfield – the Reds flow better and control games.

One Player Who Should REJECT Your Club

Jota is at his absolute best feeding off of that play. He takes up great positions, finishes chances, and simply thrives in space. Firmino’s movement and ability to feed players is ideal, then.

Of course, they’ve played together frequently over the last 18 months. They’ve got nine goals between them in 10 starts together, in fact, and that’s with the likes of Salah and Mane taking their share of the goals.

And on top of it all, they’re two of the best pressing forwards on the planet. Jota has been called a ‘pressing monster’ by Pep Lijnders, while it’s no secret that Jurgen Klopp believes Firmino is an ‘insane’ player with everything he contributes.

And so we believe there’s a lot of potential here. Liverpool will be weakened by absences but on paper, Firmino and Jota are a partnership that could excel at any club.

The next few games should prove it.
