Report: Liverpool can land player compared to Toni Kroos for just £6 million this month

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Borussia Monchengladbach midfield Denis Zakaria in the past and they could now have a golden chance to land him.

It has been claimed by The Express that the player is available for transfer this month at a bargain £6 million, with the player’s contract up in June.

That should be music to the ears of Liverpool. They could seek some reinforcements this month and Jurgen Klopp is perhaps light in midfield.

Zakaria has been a decent player for Monchengladbach. He signed from Young Boys in 2017 and has made 144 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit.

It’s not been a season to remember for his current club during 2021/22. They are feeling the effects of losing their manager and languish 14th in the top-flight.

Now, they’re desperate to sell Zakaria. At 25, Monchengladbach won’t receive any compensation should they let him leave for free at the end of the campaign.

At £6 million, the midfielder would represent a steal. He has unfulfilled potential and is capable of playing in a two, or three-man midfield.

Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara aren’t getting any younger. With that in mind, Liverpool might feel that Zakaria can provide a long-term solution to the midfield engine room.

Class: Liverpool must move for Zakaria

Lothar Matthaus has previously compared Zakaria to Real Madrid star Toni Kroos. Perhaps he’s not at that level yet but he is a capable player.

Zakaria could thrive at Liverpool. His all-action style is refreshing and he looks like a player who is right up Klopp’s street.

  • TRICK: Have Liverpool slipped up?

The 40-cap Switzerland star would relish a move to the Premier League. With Monchengladbach now struggling, he’d also welcome the chance to compete for silverware.

Klopp is unlikely to complete a stellar addition this month. As a result, a cut-price deal to bring Zakaria to Anfield looks like an ideal thing to do during the January window.
