Mateusz Musialowski could be what Liverpool want vs Shrewsbury Town on Sunday. The Reds may turn to youth in the FA Cup.
A week will have passed between Liverpool’s last fixture and their FA Cup clash with Shrewsbury Town. That wasn’t the plan, of course, but absences forced Liverpool vs Arsenal into postponement.
Whisper it quietly but that might actually work well for Liverpool. The fewer games while Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita are at AFCON the better, in all honesty, while a proper break after the Christmas period should keep the squad fresh.
And we expect this to be a fairly considerable break because Liverpool surely won’t recall their first-XI to play Shrewsbury Town. The League One side are enormous underdogs, after all, and this is a chance for the Reds to really rest players properly.
So we imagine Liverpool will lean into young players here, as they usually do against lower-league opposition. And that could finally mean a debut for Mateusz Musialowski.
Could Mateusz Musialowski debut for Liverpool vs Shrewsbury?
Musialowski has been one to watch in the Liverpool academy for some time now. Last April, for instance, a scout from the Polish FA told the Athletic how excited they are about the teenager.
“We don’t have many players like him who are fearless on the pitch and can dribble past two or three players. He’s not a player Polish people are used to. He’s got the wow factor.”
We, too, were getting very excited about Musialowski and what he could potentially bring to Liverpool. He’s consistently stepped up to every new level, producing some real magic at every turn.
And honestly, we thought we’d have seen him by now. Liverpool are yet to hand Musialowski his debut but they won’t find a better opportunity this season than Sunday vs Shrewsbury.
The Reds have plenty of exciting teenagers right now but Musialowski is up there with the best. Let’s finally see what he can do at senior level.
