Liverpool fans applaud as Mohamed Salah nominated for FIFA Best player award

Liverpool fans took to Twitter on Friday to celebrate as Mohamed Salah made the top 3 for the Best FIFA Men’s player award. The Egyptian receives recognition as one of the world’s best.

Liverpool announced on Friday that Mohamed Salah is up for the Best FIFA Men’s player award. He makes the final three nominations, alongside Lionel Messi and Roberto Lewandowski.

Messi and Lewandowski were finalists for the Ballon d’Or late last year, with the Argentine winning a record-breaking 7th award. Though, he broke his own record, of course. Lewandowski finished second, though many felt he should have taken the hour for himself.

As for Salah, he finished seventh. It wasn’t too harsh – 7th is still an incredibly high spot – but there was a feeling he should have done better after his efforts this season.

Liverpool fans reacted well to the news, of course. They see this as a deserved nomination.

The Egyptian is tearing up the Premier League, after all, scoring 16 times to top the scoring charts. He’s six ahead of second-place, in fact – teammate Diogo Jota. But the incredible thing is that Salah also tops the assist charts with nine (level with Trent Alexander-Arnold).

This is a year-long award, though, meaning his performances over the second-half of last season also count. We’ve long believed those performances went under the radar, with Salah scoring the goals that helped an injury-stricken Liverpool side finish third.

So in our eyes, this is hugely deserved. Salah may not win – his lack of trophies hurt his cause – but he’s undoubtedly worthy of being a top 3 player.
