Many Newcastle United fans think they can secure a real bargain in Divock Origi from Liverpool. Reports link the Magpies with interest.

The Telegraph put out an interesting report on Thursday. They claim that Newcastle United are interested in Liverpool striker Divock Origi.

Origi, of course, is far from a first-team fixture at Anfield, rarely starting games and not playing too many minutes. At the same time, few players boast his track record of important goals. The Belgian is a big-game player – there’s little doubt about that.

That seems like the perfect mix for Newcastle. Here’s a player with a solid reputation and proven talent, but also someone whose club undervalues him.

And according to that report, Liverpool really undervalue Origi. The Telegraph say the Belgian could leave for £7m – that’s unquestionably a bargain.

Newcastle fans certainly see it that way, with many jumping on the report to call it a steal.

We’d certainly side with them on that – £7m for Origi would be one of the steals of the year. So why are Liverpool willing to sell that low?

Apparently, Origi’s wages are the reason. The Reds pay him quite a lot, making any sale incredible difficult. Selling him on the cheap would free space in wages, then, as well as a foreign player slot.

The £7m fee is practically a token part of it – Liverpool just need someone to pay his wages. Newcastle are better-placed to do that than most, of course, and perhaps this is a deal that suits all parties.
