Neco Williams could leave Liverpool this month, according to reports. The Reds have two players ready to replace him.
This comes from Sky Sports. They claim that Liverpool are ready to let Neco Williams leave in January. It’s not immediately clear if that would be on loan or permanently, however.
But it appears that Williams doesn’t have an immediate future with Liverpool – a real problem for a growing international. Without regular football, or anything like it, the full-back will only see his opportunities for Wales fall away.
Williams could push for a move, then, and if he does, Liverpool won’t stand in his way. That’s because of two players, in particular – Conor Bradley and Owen Beck.
Liverpool rate the two teenagers highly and with them representing the future, there’s no need to keep Williams against his wishes.
Liverpool could let Neco Williams leave
Now, there’s far from any guarantee that Williams does leave as this was also the case in the summer. The Athletic reported that the Welshman wanted a move and Liverpool slapped a £10m asking price on him.
Williams stayed, of course, and has actually been very impressive when he’s played this season. It hasn’t exactly been often but we’ve seen some of his best displays for Liverpool over the last few months.

For Wales, too, Williams has been seriously impressive in a left-wingback role.
But with Trent Alexander-Arnold ahead of him at right-back and Andy Robertson & Kostas Tsimikas to contend with from the left, the player Jurgen Klopp once described as a ‘machine’ just can’t get a look-in. Bradley and Beck represent the long-term, too, which barely leave a role for Williams.
An exit truly does make sense, then, as unfortunate as it is. We’ll see what happens over the next few weeks but perhaps it works best for Williams that he gets his move.
