Liverpool have a low percentage chance of winning the Premier League title, according to one set of analyses. The Reds are slipping away.
Liverpool dropped more points on Sunday as they drew 2-2 with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. On its own, that’s really not a bad result – they’re the European champions, after all.
But it comes directly after a 1-0 defeat to Leicester City and dropped points in a 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur. That’s two points from their last nine, following a spell of six consecutive wins in the Premier League.
The overall result is Liverpool now sitting 11 points behind Manchester City, albeit with a game in hand. That’s a huge gap, then, and not one the Reds will eliminate easily.
In fact, data analysis from FiveThirtyEight says Liverpool now have just a 13% chance of winning the Premier League title. City, in comparison, have an 85% chance, Chelsea a 2% chance and everyone else is under 1%.
The analysis uses performance data, historical data and the considered strength of each squad to form their percentages. Taking all of that into account, it certainly looks as though City will be champions.

Look, it’s just one piece of analysis and certainly doesn’t mean we need to call the race here. It does show off the magnitude of Liverpool’s task, however.
They need a minor miracle, really. City need to suffer a collapse and Liverpool need to find their consistent best – and there’s under half a season remaining for both to happen.
Is that possible? Yes, according to the data – but it’s something you’re only going to see once in eight seasons. Perhaps this is that season, though. We’ve certainly seen stranger things happen at Liverpool.
