The 3 best Liverpool players from their 2-2 vs Chelsea

Liverpool drew 2-2 vs Chelsea on Sunday afternoon in a hectic game. Here are our picks for the Reds’ three best players.

Kostas Tsimikas

Kostas Tsimikas was one of the few Liverpool players who didn’t make a calamitous error vs Chelsea. The Greek stepped in once again for Andy Robertson with a fantastic performance.

Tsimikas showed fantastic energy up and down the flank for the entire 90. He was getting beyond the forwards, covering Chelsea’s dual-threat on that flank defensively, and linking up beautifully at times.

In fact, few Liverpool players managed Chelsea’s press as well as Tsimikas did. He looked composed and confident despite the pressure.

Tsimikas is one of the best backup players Liverpool have had in years and we have him down as one of the Premier League’s best left-backs. We’re lucky to have him.

Mohamed Salah

We were quite worried about Mohamed Salah going into this one. He doesn’t usually play well against back threes, with the extra attention allowing opponents to swarm the Liverpool star.

Now, Sadio Mane’s goal perhaps helped him there. Chelsea couldn’t afford to pack just Salah’s flank and the Egyptian eventually found space in behind as Antonio Rudiger failed to track him. It was a wonderful goal – what we’ve come to expect from the player.

But Salah was a threat for Liverpool over the entire game. Not every pass found him, nor did every finish come off but he kept Chelsea on their toes for 90 minutes.

We’re going to miss Salah a lot over the next month.

Sadio Mane

He broke his duck. Sadio Mane finally got on the scoresheet after nine games without a goal and it was a fine finish.

The forward benefitted from a ridiculous header from Trevor Chalobah to score it, of course, but his composure and strike were both brilliant. We’d say ‘hopefully it gives him confidence’ but he’s off to AFCON, of course.

Mane’s performance was far more than just a goal, though. He pressed like mad, winning the ball back for the second goal. He was a constant threat like Salah, too, and a huge part of Liverpool’s threat.

Back to his best? Not quite. But a hugely promising display.
