Liverpool have scouted James Hill with view to a transfer, according to reports. The 19-year-old has a growing reputation.
This comes from Team Talk. They claim that Liverpool are one of several clubs scouting James Hill. The teenager currently plays for Fleetwood Town in League One and, clearly, has built a reputation.
Hill managed to earn himself three England Under 20 caps this season, while firmly establishing himself as a first-team player over the last 18 months.
Now, Liverpool are far from the only side to hold an interest here. In fact, they’re far from the only elite club. Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona all have eyes on Hill, apparently.
It’s Southampton, however, who lead this chase. It sounds as though the Saints are ready to hand Hill a somewhat prominent first-team role, while none of the larger clubs would be willing to do that. The jump from League One to the Premier League is a massive one, after all.
Will Liverpool move for James Hill?
It seems very unlikely that Liverpool would actually sign Hill. As talented as he might be, there just isn’t really room for him anywhere near the first-team setup.
A team like Southampton could offer him that, however, which would almost certainly beat out anything Liverpool offer. That’s likely why the Reds are only really scouting Hill, rather than pushing for a transfer.
That’s not to say that Liverpool couldn’t offer anything. They’re currently assembling a magnificent group of young players, with the likes of Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones leading the way. Hill would fit right in with that as a 19-year-old with senior experience.
But we won’t hold our collective breath on this one. It sounds as though Hill will make a slightly smaller jump first – but maybe we see him at Liverpool down the line. He could be off to Southampton, after all.
