Daniel Sturridge took to Twitter this week to remember his sensational Liverpool goal against Chelsea three years ago. The striker scored an absolute worldie.

Liverpool take on Chelsea this Sunday and that, understandably, brings up memories of some fantastic goals down the years. In fact, we’ve seen some outrageous goals against Chelsea in just the last few years, with Mohamed Salah and Jordan Henderson scoring memorable strikes.

But the best arguably came from Daniel Sturridge, who scored a sensational last-minute equaliser at Stamford Bridge back in 2018/19.

Sturridge picked the ball up in a fairly safe position, 25 yards from goal with only two Liverpool players ahead of him. Chelsea were in a wonderful defensive unit, too, and it’s safe to say the striker didn’t have much on.

What no one saw coming was Sturridge just taking a touch to his left and trying a shot into the far corner. He caught it perfectly, with enough curl and dip that it swayed out of Thibaut Courtois’s reach.

Just a sensational strike and one Sturridge was happy to remember in 2021.

“Had to show some respect for the blues and not celebrate but it was an amazing feeling I must say,” Sturridge wrote on Twitter.

“Looking forward to watching the red men [Liverpool] vs [Chelsea] whatever time of day it is out here [in Australia]. Gonna be a tactical game for sure. Excited to see how it plays out.”

We can’t really ever talk about Sturridge without mentioning how good we think the forward was for Liverpool. If not for injuries, he’d have almost certainly gone down as a great at Anfield.

Few players scored as consistently as him at his best, while only really Luis Suarez can boast a similar portfolio of ridiculous goals. Unfortunately, Sturridge just couldn’t get any luck with his fitness.

This goal against Chelsea was essentially his Liverpool swansong – a final world-class moment in his last season at the club.
