Liverpool are looking into a potential £3m transfer in 2022, according to reports. The Reds seem to like the look of Calvin Ramsay.
This comes from the Press and Journal. They claim that Liverpool are one of several Premier League clubs considering a move for Calvin Ramsay.
Ramsay is an 18-year-old right-back currently shining for Aberdeen. He’s got eight assists already this season, in what is his first full senior campaign – a wonderful haul and one that will inevitably draw interest from Liverpool.
After all, the Reds thrive on production from their full-backs, one of whom developed in Scotland. It could be a match made in heaven if all goes well.
But Liverpool are far from the only club thinking that way. Leicester City and Watford are both ‘keen’ on signing Ramsay and the impression is that both hold stronger interest than Liverpool.
Then there’s Newcastle United – they may see this as a solid investment and show of transfer muscle with so much interest. They certainly have the cash.
Liverpool are relegated to a lower standing than those three, here. They’re ‘monitoring’ Ramsay, along with Manchester United, Everton, Norwich City and Southampton
On top of that, Aberdeen would apparently want a club-record fee of over £3m for the teenager. This wouldn’t be a steal.
Signing Ramsay is no easy task, then.
Liverpool eye Ramsay transfer
Usually, we’d be pretty confident that Liverpool could have their way here over the rest of the interested parties. But that might not be the case.
For one, Ramsay is a right-back and Liverpool is not the place to go if you want games at right-back. Trent Alexander-Arnold isn’t just the best in the world right now but he’s still young himself at 23. That doesn’t allow much room for players to grow.
And that’s before we get into both Neco Williams and Conor Bradley being at the club. There just doesn’t seem to be room for Ramsay at Liverpool.
We won’t hold our breath on this one, then.
