Liverpool face something of a double-edged sword with the Leicester City team news ahead of tonight’s fixture. The Reds will feel the pressure.
Liverpool boast their strongest squad in a while against Leicester City tonight. Several players return after Covid-19 absences, with Virgil van Dijk, Thiago and Fabinho all back in contention.
They can even call on Curtis Jones – someone who has been out for a long time. Jones suffered an eye injury months ago before also testing positive for Covid-19. The Scouser appears to be back in the squad, though.
The only real concern is Andy Robertson, who remains suspended both here and against Chelsea at the weekend.
And so Liverpool will host the Foxes without much to complain about. Given the state of some squads across the league, that’s something to shout about. In fact, Leicester are a great example of just how bad it’s getting for certain Premier League sides.
Leicester are without Patson Daka, Ricardo Pereira, Caglar Soyuncu, Harvey Barnes, Jonny Evans, Wesley Fofana and James Justin tonight, per Liverpoolfc.com. There’s a real doubt over Ryan Bertrand, too, who twisted his knee at the weekend.
So that’s their first and second-choice left-backs, their three best centre-backs, their right-back, their left-winger and one of their star strikes. Brendan Rodgers certainly doesn’t have it easy tonight.
Liverpool face the pressure after Leicester team news
Liverpool are virtually as strong as it gets, while Leicester couldn’t really be much weaker with their absences. And that’s a double-edged sword.

On the one hand Liverpool will get an easier game here than they could have dreamed of. Leicester are one of the Premier League’s best on their day but there’s little suggestion that this will be their day.
And that brings pressure. Anything less than three points would be a major blow in the title race – an opportunity for a routine win against a club like this doesn’t come along often. Liverpool need to take this chance to keep up the pressure.
There’s aren’t really any excuses.
