Liverpool vs Leeds United won’t happen on Boxing Day – so when could it happen? We have a look at possible dates for the rescheduled fixture.

Liverpool announced on Thursday that their fixture vs Leeds United on Boxing Day won’t happen. Or at least, it won’t happen on Boxing Day. Leeds have had too many positive Covid-19 results and were granted the postponement.

That, of course, is fair enough. It’s a very difficult period right now and football is being hit hard. It felt as though a Liverpool fixture being postponed was inevitable, in truth.

And this might actually be one that Jurgen Klopp celebrates. Liverpool now get a proper rest ahead of the Leicester City game on Tuesday, having had problems with the original plan of a two-day turnaround in fixtures. The players get proper rest and with any luck, the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Fabinho, Thiago and Curtis Jones will be available again.

Fingers crossed there aren’t any more positive test results.

But then comes the matter of rescheduling the fixture. We imagine the Premier League will want it as soon as possible, to avoid a potential pile-up later in the season.

And this is where it gets complicated. Liverpool made it through to the Carabao Cup semi-finals, of course, which eliminates two potential midweek slots. Their other one, on either the 17th or 18th of January, won’t work either as Leeds play West Ham on the 16th.

It might be that the Premier League puts it on a Thursday that week, though. The 19th could just about work. It’s three days after that Leeds fixture and three days before either team plays again.

Otherwise, the only answers are either cutting into the winter break that every team has at the end of January or postponing this one all the way into February or March. Neither seems ideal.

Our guess would be the 19th, then. This one isn’t clear but that might be a way to appease everyone.
