Sky Germany’s Marc Behrenbeck claims that the real reason for Mohamed Salah’s contract delay is that he wants assurances that Liverpool will compete with their Premier League and European rivals in the transfer market.
The Egyptian King. He’s called that for his goal-scoring talents, his unbelievable humility and, of course, his heritage.
Salah contract demands have been misunderstood
And just like any king, he will not settle for less than he deserves. One outrageous report from the Daily Mirror suggested that Salah and his agent are holding out for half a million pounds per week.

He is currently the best player in the world and by far the most outstanding in the Premier League. So for him to commit to Liverpool, I think the £400,000 that he is actually demanding, according to the Telegraph, would be fair.
Mo wants to see Liverpool dominate
However, Sky Germany reports that Salah isn’t just looking to be paid what he’s worth, he also wants to see Liverpool match their rivals in the transfer market after watching them limp through the last few transfer windows.
Fortunately, in Jurgen Klopp, the Reds have the best coach in the world and have been able to win the Premier League and the Champions League.

Despite having a much lower net spend due to FSG’s transfer model, Klopp has kept Liverpool competitive when no other manager would have. He even finished third last season amid one of the worst defensive injury crises I’ve ever seen.
Salah, who deserves to be winning silverware ever season, reportedly wants Liverpool to invest in the squad and reportedly wants to see Erling Haaland join the team. The Norwegian is one of the most sought-after players on the planet. He scored 41 goals last season and allegedly has a £63m release clause that kicks in in the summer.
Salah has more ambition than FSG – contract renewal so important
If it’s true and the reason Salah hasn’t signed a new contract yet is that he wants to see FSG show more ambition in the transfer market and back Jurgen Klopp, it will be fascinating to see how this unfolds.

You can see when Mo plays that all he wants is to win and it is clear this stretches to his contract negotiations.
Hopefully it pays off, but FSG view Liverpool like a business and I can’t imagine they will want to keep Salah more than they want to keep their successful model.
“It’s not up to me”
Salah has made a point of repeatedly telling the media that his contract renewal is not up to him and that it’s down to the club.
In March 2021 he was asked by Spanish daily Marca if a move to Spain is of interest and Salah replied: “I hope to be able to play for many more years. Why not? No one knows what’s going to happen in the future, so… maybe one day, yes.
“I hope to be able to play for many more years. Why not? No one knows what’s going to happen in the future, so… maybe one day, yes.”
“I hope to be doing the same thing that I’ve been doing in recent years: Winning trophies, scoring goals, helping my team win trophies.
“That’s the most important thing for me.”
Asked if he sees himself leaving Liverpool soon, Salah said: “It’s not up to me. We’ll see what happens but I prefer not to talk about that now.”
