Melkamu Frauendorf could be the next gem at Liverpool. The German teenager keeps shining brightly for the Under 18s.
The future looks unbelievably bright for Liverpool right now. It’s difficult to think of a time when so many incredible talents have progressed at once, with the likes of Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott really shining for the first-team in recent seasons.
Neco Williams, too, looks quite special right now, while Tyler Morton made a Premier League start at the weekend. Kaide Gordon and Conor Bradley have a lot of hype around them on the right flank, while Mateusz Musialowski continues to impress at youth level.
And perhaps the next exciting name is Melkamu Frauendorf. Liverpool signed the German in 2020 and he’s now exploding into life with the Reds.
Frauendorf currently plays for the Under 18s and this weekend scored twice in a 5-0 win over Burnley. Those goals were his fourth in his last six games at that level – to go along with two assists.
But it’s slightly better record than that. Frauendorf got all of his goal contributions from right midfield, coming in five of those six games. That at least suggests he’s carving out a future role for himself – though, that does come with problems.
Melkamu Frauendorf and his Liverpool future
One ‘problem’ at Liverpool right now is that so many of these young talents play in attacking roles. They can’t possibly progress them all with decent game time.

Frauendorf, for instance, hasn’t seen the same kind of success in the UEFA Youth League. That’s partly because Gordon plays in the competition, however, taking up that right-sided spot that Frauendorf clearly likes.
And that’s going to be a problem going forward. We worried about the same thing when Elliott appeared set to play there – his move into the middle opens the first-team door for Gordon, though.
Similarly, Williams and Bradley both play best at right-back – that’s difficult to work with when there’s a 23-year-old Trent Alexander-Arnold there. But this is the problem with having so many top talents.
It’s one you’d much rather have than not.
