Gary Neville was blown away by Alisson Becker when he saved Dele Alli’s shot which denied a certain goal. But the Brazilian let himself down by gifting Heung Min-Son in the second half.
Speaking on commentary for Sky Sports last night, the former Manchester United full-back reacted to Alisson’s save from Alli when the English midfielder was played in by Harry Kane.
The former AS Roma goalkeeper looked as though he was certain to score. However, a fingertip save by the Brazilian denied Alli, keeping Liverpool in the game, and Neville was blown away.
He said: “I have to say, Alisson, he is a special goalkeeper. It’s a brilliant save.”
Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Spurs was one for the ages. It was a game that will be remembered for all the wrong reasons, however.
Both sides displayed outstanding technical quality and fought ferociously to win the game. But the referee, Paul Tierney, had a shocker. VAR once again showed that it has a long way to go until it can be considered a seamless part of the game.
Alisson played a huge role in shaping the game as well. Despite the referee’s frustrating involvement, had the Brazilian not gifted Son a goal in the 74th minute, the Reds might have hung on.
Of course, there is no point dealing in hypotheticals, even if that’s all we as football fans do in between games!
The thing I wonder most about is why Klopp decided to play such a high line. With such a weak midfield due to Thiago, Henderson and Fabinho being out, and with van Dijk also sidelined, playing a high line against an Antonio Conte outfit was inviting trouble. Especially going into the final stages of the match.
A point is not the end of the world given the state of our squad and we’re still only three points behind Manchester City and in the thick of the title race.
