Confirmed Liverpool lineup & reaction as 19-year-old starts vs Tottenham

Here’s the confirmed Liverpool lineup vs Tottenham Hotspur today. The Reds look to make it nine wins on the bounce.

Liverpool are in a wonderful run of form right now but there are, as with everyone, difficulties now. Jurgen Klopp lost three players to Covid-19 results during the week, taking Virgil van Dijk, Fabinho and Curtis Jones out of his plans.

Van Dijk and Fabinho, in particular, are key players who would undoubtedly start this one if available. Then news hit this afternoon that Thiago, too, tested positive. Jordan Henderson won’t play either, though with an unrelated illness.

It’s a massive problem for Liverpool ahead of Tottenham – as we suspected. Predicting this one, let alone preparing for it, was an impossible task.

Liverpool vs Spurs promises to be an interesting one, though. Antonio Conte has dealt with similar issues over the last two weeks, with his team not playing in nearly two weeks. That takes them into this one without any momentum – and a need for match fitness.

Can Liverpool capitalise? Let’s see what Klopp has gone for.

Confirmed Liverpool lineup vs Tottenham

Alisson

Trent Alexander-Arnold

Joel Matip

Ibrahima Konate

Andy Robertson

Tyler Morton

James Milner

Naby Keita

Mohamed Salah

Diogo Jota

Sadio Mane

Klopp had no easy answer here – no matter who he chose in midfield, there would be problems. As with every team right now, preparing is impossible as players continue to test positive.

But giving Tyler Morton his full Premier League debut is a big shout. It suggests Klopp wants a pure holding midfielder there – and the teenager did prove himself vs AC Milan.

Other than that, the team makes complete sense as Klopp sticks with a winning formula.

Reaction

Unsurprisingly, the reaction revolves around Morton’s debut – a huge moment for the teenager. It does feel as though the win hinges on his performance here.

He’s looked good every time he’s played, fortunately. Fingers crossed for another impressive display for Liverpool vs Tottenham.
