Report: £15m transfer looks close as 2nd club considers Liverpool player

Liverpool could soon seal a £15m transfer for a squad player, according to reports. A second club has eyes on Nat Phillips.

This comes from Bild. They claim that Eintracht Frankfurt have eyes on Nat Phillips right now and could move in the transfer window.

That’s because Frankfurt will likely sell Evan Ndicka next month. The club needs money and selling the 22-year-old for a sizeable fee would make life a lot easier.

That, of course, leaves a gap at centre-back and it’s one Phillips could fill – if they secure a transfer with Liverpool. The defender does have a history in German football, having spent time on loan with Stuttgart back in 2020.

And given his lack of playing time with Liverpool, a transfer could make sense for everyone involved.

Phillips to leave Liverpool in transfer window?

Phillips is supposedly up for sale. The Athletic claims there’s a £15m price tag on his head, with both West Ham United and Newcastle United interested.

Now, for us, that would be an absolute bargain. Phillips proved himself last season, helping Liverpool qualify for the top four and this season he looked great at San Siro in the Champions League. You don’t usually secure a player like that for £15m – especially when they’re still only 24.

But given his lack of experience over the years, clubs will hope to drive that price down as low as possible. Liverpool need this extra interest in order to keep it high.

Because if Frankfurt come along to offer first-XI football, West Ham and Newcastle will essentially have to pay the full asking price. It’s the only way they could really secure the transfer, as their offers of playing time won’t be as strong as the Germans’.

It sounds as though Liverpool could well get their money here, then. A £15m transfer looks more and more likely come January.
