Liverpool take on Newcastle United today but they won’t have an entire squad to choose from as per the latest team news. Here are the five players who will miss the fixture.
Liverpool have had battles with injuries this season. Thankfully, they’re nowhere near as bad as last season, of course.
But there are some worries as Liverpool take on Newcastle United today. The Reds will be without five players at Anfield, which does limit them slightly. Let’s have a look at who’s missing for Liverpool as per the team news.
Liverpool miss 5 players vs Newcastle United
Curtis Jones
Jones has been out for some time after a freak eye injury in training – in fact, he hasn’t played since October. Liverpool have tried to be as careful as possible with this one.
Fortunately, it sounds as though Jones will be back soon. Jurgen Klopp says he’s ‘not far off’ and just had his first training session for some time. It should only be another week or two.
Divock Origi
A real shame that Origi’s still injured and won’t play for Liverpool against Newcastle. He was just finding his best form once again but then, as we’ve seen before, injury robs him of his momentum.
There’s no real estimation for a return, either. Hopefully not too long before Origi’s an option again.
Nat Phillips
Now, Phillips was highly unlikely to play against Newcastle, of course. He’s Liverpool’s fifth-choice centre-back and could well leave Liverpool in January.

But any chance of him playing is gone after an injury that has kept him out for a week now.
Adrian
Again, highly unlikely that Adrian would have been out on the pitch. He’s third choice now in goal and Liverpool only need him in an injury crisis. Fortunately, there’s no such worry against Newcastle.
Harvey Elliott
Elliott almost certainly would have featured if not for his injury. It’s been a while now, though, and the suggestion is that there’s a while to go still. The 18-year-old was magic to kick off the campaign – it’ll be 2022 before we see him again, though.
