Liverpool are looking at a transfer for Jonathan David, according to reports. The Canadian has made an incredible improvement this season.
This comes from L’Equipe. They claim that several teams have eyes on Jonathan David – but none more so than Liverpool.
This comes as Lille look to sell several key players for financial reasons. The likes of Renato Sanches, Sven Botman and Jonathan Ikone could all leave by the end of January.
David, though, remains a possibility, too. There’s little suggestion that a January transfer is on the cards but teams could try for the summer.
And we can fully expect teams to try that if Lille are even remotely up for selling.
Liverpool look at Jonathan David
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen reports linking Liverpool with David – far from it, in fact. L’Equipe recently claimed there was a potential £30m deal there.
But reports actually go back into 2020. The Liverpool Echo is one of several outlets that believes David was under discussion at the same time as Diogo Jota. The Reds went with the Portuguese option, of course.
We’re huge fans of David, though, and Liverpool would do well to secure a transfer here. We think a David/Jota partnership could end up being absolute magic.
David’s pressing has long been a key attribute, as is his ability to link play. But he’s seen a truly elite development this season, finding the net as well as anyone. In fact, the Canadian is Ligue 1’s top scorer right now and scored the goals that got Lille out of their Champions League group.
That kind of improvement should raise eyebrows – especially as David is still only 21. If Liverpool really are at the front of the queue, we hope they move before clubs begin trying to push in front of them.
