Liverpool wanted £50,000-a-week player in 2020, now he's set for thankless Anfield assignment

In August 2020, Liverpool saw a £10 million bid for Jamal Lewis rejected by Norwich City.

The Reds were in the market for a new left-back to act as a backup to the brilliant Andy Robertson.

Liverpool saw the Northern Ireland international as the ideal player but refused to pay the £14 million asking price.

Jurgen Klopp instead went and signed Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiacos, with Lewis signing for Newcastle.

After an indifferent maiden campaign at St James’ Park, Lewis now looks like getting a run in the team under Eddie Howe.

Tonight he will face arguably the toughest assignment there is in world football right now.
