Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius is wanted by one of European football’s whipping boys in January, according to TalkSPORT.

The German custodian is on borrowed time at Anfield and has slipped way down the pecking order on Merseyside.

Karius is a wanted man though and Greuther Furth believe he can revive their flailing fortunes.

The Bundesliga newcomers have endured a rotten first half of the 2021/22 campaign. They have won just one of their 15 fixtures, conceding 46 goals.

Karius arrived at Liverpool in 2016 from Mainz. He’s made 49 appearances for the club, keeping 22 clean sheets during those outings.

Things went south for the 28-year-old after the Champions League final at the end of the 2017/18 campaign.

Liverpool lost 3-1 and Karius was at fault for two goals scored by Real Madrid as they lifted the trophy.

That prompted Jurgen Klopp to go out and sign Alisson Becker and being frank, the Reds have never looked back.

Karius has spent time on loan with Besiktas and Union Berlin but a suitor wasn’t forthcoming during the summer transfer window.

Now, the Bundesliga outfit looks set to offer him a lifeline.

Liverpool are wise to offload Karius in January

The £65,000-a-week goalkeeper will be out of contract in the summer.

In comparison to other players, Karius isn’t on a huge wage, although getting that salary off the books would be ideal.

Liverpool may need to enter the market in January. Both Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane will head off to the AFCON and reinforcements could be required.

Karius has always had an error in his locker at Liverpool.

His confidence took a serious following the 2018 Champions League final and truthfully, he’s never recovered.

Liverpool fans will wish him well but the time is right to wave goodbye.
