Report: Juventus worry about Liverpool in transfer race for midfielder

Juventus are worried about Liverpool in their transfer pursuit of Denis Zakaria, according to reports. The Italian giants consider alternatives already.

This comes from CalcioMercato. They say that Juventus want to sign Denis Zakaria in 2022.

The Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder is an easy target – his contract expires at the end of this season. Any interested party will either look to secure him for nothing or on the cheap in the January transfer window.

And Liverpool could well be one of those looking to secure a transfer for Zakaria. They’re supposedly the biggest dog in this fight, forcing other sides to look elsewhere.

The article claims that Juventus would struggle to convince Zakaria over Jurgen Klopp’s side. Both financially and on the pitch, it appears Liverpool hold the advantage in this transfer race.

Juve could try and pry Kouadio Koné away from Gladbach instead – if Liverpool do indeed flex their muscle here.

Liverpool lead Denis Zakaria transfer race

This certainly isn’t the first time we’ve heard reports linking Liverpool with Zakaria. Fabrizio Romano said something similar during the week, for instance.

DIVOCK ORIGI DOES NOT MAKE SENSE.

And for what it’s worth, we think it’s a transfer that makes sense for Liverpool. Zakaria could be the replacement for Gini Wijnaldum that the Reds never signed and, potentially, he could arrive without a fee.

But we do think it’s worth waiting on this one. There’s a temptation to move in January and bolster the squad for the rest of the season, though we’re not sure about the rush there.

Liverpool have a lot of midfielders on the books right now and paying a transfer fee for another one seems unnecessary. Instead, signing a pre-contract for a move this summer sounds good to us.

Not that we’d complain if the Reds saw things otherwise. Zakaria would be a wonderful addition – in January or July.
