According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are about to enter the final stages of contract talks with Mohamed Salah.
Reports indicated recently that Salah wants to be paid £400,000 a week in line with his status as the best player in the world.
Liverpool fans are desperate to see FSG wrap up talks with Salah and his agent Ramy Abbas Issa.
Fabrizio Romano provides update on Mo’s contract talks
Speaking on the ‘Here We Go’ podcast, the Italian journalist provided the update. He says the sticking point is on the ‘huge’ salary demands Salah and his agent are making.
He said: “Mo Salah will be 30 years old in the coming months. So he wants an important contract because it will be his last major contract off his career.
“This is why he is still negotiating with his agents and Liverpool. In the moment, the negotiation is on the financial point and in particular his salary. He wants a huge salary.
“Timing will be super important in this story because Liverpool and Salah have been negotiating since last summer. But now is time to enter the final stages of the negotiation.
“Liverpool know if they are in May or June without Mo Salah signing his new deal, they’re going to have a problem because he will be out of contract in June 2023.
“It could be a dangerous situation for Liverpool so they want to clarify something as soon as possible.”
Mohamed Salah is in the form of his life
The Egyptian scored his 20th goal of the season against AC Milan on Tuesday. He has now scored or assisted in 18 of his 20 appearances and has a total of 29 goal contributions and it’s not even Christmas.
Liverpool would need to sign Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland to replicate the impact Salah is making. Both would ask for similar salaries, so paying the no.11 what he wants is something of a no-brainer.
It flys in the face of FSG’s wage structure but an exception needs to be made for the former Chelsea star. This is a unique situation where Liverpool have the best player in the world and it is not often we can say that.
