Liverpool labelled 'the best team in Europe that we have ever seen' after AC Milan win

Jason Cundy was quite hyperbolic as he labelled Liverpool ‘the best team in Europe that we have ever seenafter their second string beat AC Milan.

Liverpool have been brilliant. I don’t think that’s in question. To say they are unequivocally the best team of all time is just bizarre though.

I do think Jurgen Klopp could guide his side to the Champions League title this season. Europe isn’t as strong as it used to be and the Reds have one of the best starting lineups in the world.

But Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are still very strong. The English sides are best equipped to win the Champions League, with their pressing, attacking and defensive quality.

Cundy rant was entertaining but questionable

Speaking on talkSPORT, Cundy said: “Mate, how bad are AC Milan? How bad is the rest of Europe? I’ve seen enough now; OK Leipzig beat Man City, but City fans won’t care because they made seven or eight changes tonight.

“I’m looking across Europe right, there is no one other than Bayern Munich and maybe PSG because they have Messi and Mbappe and Neymar up top.

DIVOCK ORIGI DOES NOT MAKE SENSE.

“Liverpool were superb and they have been this campaign, but you can’t gauge anything from that. They look like the best team in Europe that we have ever seen.

“That’s their second squad, imagine what they’re going to be like when they put out the big ‘eads. AC Milan tonight were a disgrace, I couldn’t believe what I am watching there.”

Injuries and AFCON will determine Liverpool success

It is still a case of managing the squad and keeping the starting XI fit for Klopp and Liverpool. If the German can keep his best players fit, there is no reason why they shouldn’t be able to win the Premier League and/or the Champions League.

It is a tough ask when Liverpool employ such a physically demanding counter-pressing system. If you put them against any other team in Europe across two legs, they have the quality and belief to win.

Dubbed the ‘Mentality Monsters’, there isn’t another team in Europe that plays with the belief that the Reds do. It’s why they score so many late goals and why they are able to drive forward with impunity.

Divock Origi’s late winner wasn’t a stroke of luck. It came from a sensational long ball to Salah, whose first touch was immaculate. He then worked the ball to Origi, who was always going to score in that position.

Against AC Milan, Liverpool’s second-stringers won with minimal fuss with goals from Salah and Origi. They are certainly not the best team of all time but, if they win the UCL this season, they can work their way in the coming years to enter that debate.
