According to the Liverpool Echo, the club stands to make £186million from a new Premier League TV deal set to kick in next year.
Before we continue, it is important to clarify this doesn’t necessarily mean anything for transfers. Obviously, it would be great if FSG would use the increase in funds to sign more players. That seems unlikely though.
The report says the deal the Premier League clinched worth £1.9billion was £800m more than anticipated and it means Premier League clubs will receive a bump in revenue.
It’s actually incredible that Jurgen Klopp has achieved what he has with the limited resources afforded to him. Had he been able to sign the players that his rivals have, it’s scary to think what he may have achieved.
Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United vastly outspend Liverpool every summer. Even Arsenal are willing to splash more cash than the Reds.
Fortunately, Klopp is a miracle worker.
The fact that he won the Premier League in 2020 and then got the Reds to third amid the injury crisis last season with virtually no money spent is something that went under the radar.
The likes of Pep Guardiola have worked with seemingly bottomless budgets and yet have been matched on the pitch by Liverpool.
That is a testament to Klopp’s managerial excellence. Hopefully, this new TV deal can see the German handed a bigger transfer budget even if it seems unlikely.
