James Pearce says it is currently unlikely that Liverpool will make new signings in January despite the impact of AFCON.

Liverpool were made to fight for their fourth successive Premier League win, with Wolves making the game at Molineux an all-out battle.

Mohamed Salah assisted Divock Origi in the 93rd minute to win the game in hugely dramatic fashion, as the Reds climbed above Chelsea in the Premier League table to go second.

As December winds down, we will see more and more transfer rumours emerge. But the Athletic’s James Pearce, as cited by The Anfield Buzz on Twitter, reports that it is unlikely Liverpool will make any new signings in January.

Of course, that can change if there are more injuries to key players. Yet it seems as though Jurgen Klopp trusts his squad to cope without Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita for a month.

Divock Origi has shown once again that he can provide Liverpool with a source of goals and, while Diogo Jota should not have missed his virtually open goal opportunity, he’s also in good form and has four goals in his last four games.

Liverpool are not the type of club to be forced into making panic signings, even if there is the need for new players. They insist on signing players that can have long term futures at the club; not simply serve as stop-gap solutions.

From the club’s perspective, there is no point signing a forward that could maybe score two or three goals in January but then might not necessarily play for the rest of the season when Salah and Mane return.
