Report: Arsenal ready to rival Liverpool for £30m Jonathan David transfer

Arsenal are considering a move for Liverpool transfer target Jonathan David, according to reports. The Canadian is enjoying a wonderful season so far.

This comes from the Evening Standard. They claim that Arsenal have eyes on Jonathan David as an alternative to Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Calvert-Lewis is the Gunners’ primary choice but they also know he’d cost a fortune. After all, Everton rate the striker incredibly highly and won’t sell cheap – let alone to another Premier League side.

But in David, Arsenal could find a much easier alternative. He’s currently playing in France with Lille, having won Ligue 1 with them last season.

This time around, however, David has found a goalscoring touch. He currently leads the Ligue 1 scoring charts and got another on Saturday evening against Troyes.

Lille would likely accept a far smaller fee than Everton, while David is three years younger than Calvert-Lewin, too. Their biggest problem could be found at Anfield, though.

Liverpool eye David transfer

L’Equipe claims Liverpool have eyes on David. He’d apparently cost around £30m – a potential bargain.

Now, we’ve written a lot on David over the last 12 months as he’s a player who looks virtually perfect for Liverpool. He’s a very solid finisher, as well as one of Europe’s premier pressing forwards.

And as a champion at 21, it’s difficult to find a more complete package at any price. £30m simply looks like a steal.

But with finances tight, Lille could sell. Arsenal will apparently wait in line if they do and we hope Liverpool push to the front of that queue.

As we wrote earlier in the week, David could be a dream partner for Diogo Jota among other things. Surely, Liverpool can’t let Arsenal have their way with this one.
