Liverpool will see a major weakness in Wolves already

Liverpool travel to play Wolves tomorrow and the Reds will see a major weakness in their opponents already. Jurgen Klopp and co. will expect three points.

Wolves are quietly having a solid season up to now. They’re currently eight in the Premier League, level with Manchester United and three points from fourth. That’s pretty impressive for a club that changed manager this summer.

It’s not as though everything has clicked for them, either. Pedro Neto still isn’t back from injury, Adama Traore has completely lost his final ball, and Raul Jimenez is still working his way back to his best.

So the fact they’re eighth is something to shout about – they should only improve from here.

Liverpool, then, will face Wolves with a bit of caution. Here’s a good side that finds results while being very difficult to break down. They’ve only conceded 12 goals, for instance – the joint-third best record in the Premier League with Liverpool.

However, we think the Reds will see a real weakness in Wolves. Liverpool also happen to be the best team to take advantage of it.

Liverpool travel to Wolves

Wolves have clean-sheets in their last three games. However, they’ve also controlled possession in those games. They had 53% of the ball against West Ham, 56% against Norwich and 65% against Burnley.

There have been five games where they had a minority of the ball this season. Those games saw just one win, however, against Southampton. That’s also the only game in which Wolves kept a clean-sheet – and it was despite the Saints boasting a higher xG.

Wolves are almost certainly going to give up possession to Liverpool tomorrow. In fact, they might give up quite a lot of it as the Reds tend to dominate the ball in games.

So while Wolves do a great job of keeping the ball and limiting pressure on their defence, they can buckle when teams really exert it. We expect Liverpool to do that, given they put more pressure on defences than anyone this season.

Wolves’ possession tactic is working very well this season. We don’t think it’ll work against Liverpool, however, who will surely make possession the order of the day.
