Jurgen Klopp says his Liverpool exit is in mind with a recent move at the club. The boss may not be around for too much longer.
Liverpool gave people a surprise on Tuesday as they announced a new member of their coaching staff – Claudio Taffarel. The World Cup-winning goalkeeper joins as a goalkeeper coach, a job he already holds with the Brazilian national team.
The connection with Alisson is pretty clear, given they work together at international level. The two actually have quite a bit in common, too, having both come through at Internacional, albeit decades apart.
It’s an interesting addition, then. Taffarel certainly brings a level of expertise and experience that few can match and, hopefully, that benefits all the club’s goalkeepers.
And that’s something Jurgen Klopp hopes to do across the club. He admitted to ESPN Brazil that a move like this is looking to secure success past his own Liverpool exit.
Juren Klopp talks Liverpool exit
“We really have a big idea with the club in general,” said Klopp.
“So in these six and a half years I’ve been at the club, I try to improve as much as I can which will sustain when I’m not there any longer as well.
“So I think we have in the moment an incredible group of goalkeepers. That’s really important.”
That’s certainly the next difficult moment for Liverpool – life after Klopp. The fact the man himself is making moves to help for that process is simply fantastic, though.
We’re seeing it across the club. There’s more emphasis in youth than ever before, with Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott, Tyler Morton and Kaide Gordon all looking like bright lights for the next generation.

All are very young but received signs that Liverpool will bet on them going forward. That should, at the very least, create a base in the playing squad post-Klopp.
But the coaching staff is certainly another thing entirely. Liverpool may want to set up things for the next boss, rather than overhaul with an appointment. Does that point to an inside hire? Maybe. But creating a world-class setup that remains in place after Klopp could be the best shot at continuing this remarkable era.
And we couldn’t be happier that Klopp himself is happy to provide that. It would be very, very easy to just want short-term success while his name is on it.
