Jurgen Klopp believes it’s ‘only a matter of time’ before Virgil van Dijk is fully over his injury. The Dutchman should have another level yet.
Liverpool travel to Goodison Park later today and it’s difficult to ignore last season’s game in the process. That, of course, was a fixture that entirely change the course of the Reds’ season.
Virgil van Dijk picked up an awful season-ending injury in the game just a little over a year ago. While other injuries went on to exacerbate the problem, that was the one that really disrupted things.
Right now, though, there are no injury concerns over Van Dijk. He appears completely fine and has played a huge part in Liverpool’s season so far.
But Jurgen Klopp believes Van Dijk will soon overcome any remaining issues. If he’s not 100% just yet, it’s only a matter of time.
Klopp on Van Dijk injury
“It’s all good,” Klopp said, per Liverpoolfc.com. “His comeback was absolutely brilliant since he’s back, is really good.
“If some things are not exactly like they have been, it’s only a matter of time when they will be exactly where they would have been because just his quality, there’s no doubt about that.”

Using stats per FBref, we can see that any worries over Van Dijk are minimal at best. Every facet of his game is pretty much exactly where it was in the seasons before his injury.
In fact, he’s winning more tackles, more interceptions and making more blocks than he was. While part of that will be Liverpool not defending quite as well as they were in 2019/20, it’s a sign that Van Dijk is just as active as ever.
So we’ll choose to be excited at the idea that Van Dijk could make further improvements. He’s already at his elite, best-in-the-world level – and there could be more to come.
