3rd player ever: Mohamed Salah makes some history vs Everton

Mohamed Salah made some history with his performance for Liverpool against Everton on Wednesday. The Egyptian helped his team to a 4-1 win.

Mohamed Salah is something special, then. We knew that years ago, of course, but what we’re seeing this season is on another level.

The winger scored twice at Goodison Park, taking his Premier League tally to 13. That would have seen him finish joint-ninth in the Golden Boot race last season – but there are 24 games still to go, of course.

Salah will have to settle for simply leading that race by four for now. Putting his efforts down to simply goals, however, is doing him a disservice.

For one, he’s got eight assists, which again leads the league. Pure numbers also don’t show just how consistently dominant he really is.

Perhaps one stat does, though. Opta Tweeted out during the game against Everton that Salah had contributed at least one goal or assist in his last 12 Premier League games.

Only two players have done this before. Stan Collymore did it in 1995 (also for Liverpool) and Jamie Vardy did it in 2015. Salah now equals Collymore – but he’s still three games behind Vardy’s record.

What really makes Salah’s efforts stand out, though, isn’t that he’s got 12 goals in 12 goals. He’s on 11 goals and seven assists in that span.

That’s 18 direct contributions over 12 games, with at least one in each. That’s simply incredible – how do you stop that?

Mohamed Salah shines for Liverpool vs Everton

We wrote back in October that Salah was playing even better than it first looks. It’s now December and that still holds true.

He’s playing outrageously well right now, dominating games with his mere presence.

Everton certainly couldn’t stop Salah. They couldn’t get near him for his first goal, while his second showed just how incredible he really is. Seamus Coleman made one mistake on the halfway like and that was it – goal.

So we expect Vardy’s record might be under threat right now. It won’t be the only one this season, either.
