Some fans can’t quite believe a statistic about Mohamed Salah after Liverpool’s win over Southampton. The Egyptian didn’t actually score in the game.
We can barely believe it. Liverpool won a game 4-0 and Mohamed Salah didn’t get any of them. In fact, the Reds’ top goalscorer didn’t threaten all that much.
Southampton did a very decent job of slowing Salah down and keeping him away from goal. Of course, that left space for Diogo Jota to score twice but you can’t have it all.
They couldn’t stop Salah entirely, however. He still registered an assist, setting up Jota’s second with a perfect low cross inside the six-yard box.
With that, Salah picks up his eighth assist in the Premier League this season, putting him out on his own for that statistic. He’s also, of course, the top goalscorer, too.
And that prompted Opta to Tweet out a stat after the Southampton game to highlight just how ‘ridiculous’ Salah is playing right now.
“Mohamed Salah has been directly involved in 25 goals in all competitions this season (17 goals, 8 assists), more than double that of any other Premier League player. Ridiculous.”
That’s certainly is ridiculous. Salah is an unstoppable force right now and understandably, fans were a little in awe of this particular stat.

The crazy thing about this is that Salah isn’t even fluking it. He sits top of the Premier League in both expected goals and expected assists (per FBref), essentially delivering as expected.
This isn’t a case of luck, nor is it a mere purple patch. Salah truly is outperforming the rest of the Premier League doing it in multiple ways.
The best player in the world? It’s virtually impossible to argue against at this point.
