Jurgen Klopp hints at possible Liverpool team vs Southampton

Jurgen Klopp dropped a hint at his possible Liverpool team to face Southampton tomorrow. The Reds are entering the busiest period of the season.

Liverpool saw out a 2-0 win over Porto with what was a notably strong team for a game with nothing riding on it. The Reds kicked off knowing they’d win their Champions League group no matter what the result.

Yet Jurgen Klopp started Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Joel Matip and Thiago. All are players you’d put in the Reds’ best XI right now.

So what does that mean for the weekend? We predicted a pretty serious Liverpool team for Southampton, going with the best possible XI.

Klopp may have other ideas, however, and he hinted at such on Friday.

Klopp on the Liverpool team vs Southampton

Liverpool faced Porto on Wednesday, with this game against Southampton coming on Saturday. The Reds’ next game is the following Wednesday – at Everton.

“Wednesday-Saturday is always a time where we have to really think about ‘how can we change?’,” said Klopp, per Liverpoolfc.com.

“Saturday-Wednesday is completely different, it’s a day more, that’s what you need. But Wednesday-Saturday, after all the games we played, we have to really think about.”

Essentially, Klopp isn’t worried about players missing the Everton game after playing against Southampton. He is, however, a little worried about the players who faced Porto – they might not be 100% for tomorrow.

Now, for the likes of Salah and Mane, we’re not worried. We fully expect them to start again as their track records suggest they’ll be fine.

For Matip and Thiago, however, we’re not too sure. Thiago, in particular, is a worry as he’s only just come back from a long-term injury.

If Klopp is worried about anyone, it’ll surely be the Spaniard. Matip has his own worries, too, though – perhaps Konate gets back-to-back games.

It sounds as though we’ll see some changes, no matter what. And Thiago, for us, may sit this one out if Klopp’s truly worried.
