Report: Liverpool eye bargain transfer for Ryan Gravenberch

Liverpool are looking at a bargain transfer for Ryan Gravenberch, according to reports. The teenager is one of Europe’s hottest properties.

This comes from CalcioMercato. The Italian outlet, reporting on interest from Juventus, believes Liverpool want a transfer for Ryan Gravenberch.

The Dutchman’s contract expires in 2023, meaning 2022 is the final year in which Ajax can guarantee a big fee for the 19-year-old. And they’ll certainly want that – Gravenberch is one of the best young talents in Europe.

He’s the standout young talent in a very interesting Ajax team. The great Dutch side are looking fantastic in Europe, dominating Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

And like Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong before him, that has rich European clubs wanting a taste. It’s easy to see why Liverpool would be one of those.

Ryan Gravenberch to Liverpool?

Liverpool are currently building a pretty fantastic selection of young players. Trent Alexander-Arnold is still only 23, for instance, while new signing Ibrahim Konate is 22.

Then there’s Curtis Jones (20), Harvey Elliott (18) and up-and-coming prospect Kaide Gordon (17). Adding 19-year-old Gravenberch to that is an incredibly exciting prospect.

Waiting until next summer makes sense, too, let alone biding time until Gravenberch is available on the cheap. We’re talking about a next-generation player here – not someone who needs to come in and dominate.

But there won’t be many better choices – if any – to take over from the likes of Jordan Henderson and Thiago. Gravenberch is the kind of talent to do just that.

His potential rival for that role is Jude Bellingham, currently with Dortmund. The Englishman could well cost over £100m, however, where an expiring contract means Gravenberch won’t cost anything like that.

We’d still like to see the Reds prioritise Bellingham but they certainly won’t be the only ones. Gravenberch, though, represents a magnificent alternative when building Liverpool’s future.
