Renato Sanches says all the right things amid Liverpool transfer talk

Renato Sanches gave some interesting answers this week as Liverpool transfer talk continues to grow. The Reds are one of several clubs reportedly looking at the midfielder.

Le10Sport claims Renato Sanches could leave Lille in 2022. The Ligue 1 champions need money, with the 24-year-old potentially fetching a decent price.

Calciomercato, reporting on Milan’s interest, believe Liverpool are one of the clubs looking at Sanches. He’d certainly be an interesting signing, in our opinion.

But there are a couple of issues with Sanches. Firstly, there are his injuries. The midfielder frequently misses games with problems and we’re not entirely sure Liverpool can afford to add another injury-prone option.

If there’s a suggestion he’s over those problems, however, then that leaves just one question – can he do it at an elite club?

Renato Sanches transfer talk

Renato Sanches has been at a club like Liverpool before. He joined Bayern Munich a few years ago but flopped quite badly.

He didn’t live up to the incredibly high expectations, especially after a big-money move. That pushed him to Lille, where things aren’t quite as pressure-filled.

Not that there isn’t success to be had there – they’re Ligue 1 champions, after all. But Lille are underdogs who can push to success, rather than a club that demands it.

Sanches, though, believes his experience at Lille has made him ready for one of Europe’s top dogs.

“When I arrived at Bayern, I was not ready to play in such a club. I was very young,” he told L’Equipe.

“And when I got ready, the opportunity to play with this team never came.

“Today I feel ready. I understand football better, I have more experience, I know what to do to play in this kind of club and that changes everything.”

Given he did help Lille to the title, it’s quite easy to take Sanches at his word here. He does feel like a more mature, experienced player.

Perhaps, then, he is ready for a move to someone like Liverpool. We’d still question his injury record, as we say, but that’s really the last step here.

If Sanches can remain fit, we think he’d be a brilliant signing.
