Dusan Vlahovic put AC Milan to the sword on Saturday evening and made a case to be a Liverpool transfer target in doing so. The Reds want the striker, according to reports.

Dusan Vlahovic is unquestionably one of the most interesting young players in Europe right now. A year ago, that wasn’t the case – he’d only scored a couple of Serie A goals.

But the Serbian exploded into life last December, finishing the campaign with 21 goals for Fiorentina. That immediately catapulted him into conversations as a 21-year-old with enormous potential.

And if you need more proof of that, you need only look at his contract situation. Vlahovic’s current deal expires in 2023 and, naturally, Fiorentina offered him a new one.

But he rejected it, essentially forcing La Viola to consider transfer offers in 2022. That has clubs lining up for Vlahovic and, according to journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Liverpool are one of them.

If true, he certainly made his case to the Reds on Saturday evening.

Vlahovic shines vs AC Milan

Fiorentina beat AC Milan last night in a 4-3 win. Vlahovic was the difference.

His first goal was a brilliant example of movement in behind. The striker tried to run beyond the centre-backs once but the pass didn’t come. He quickly got back onside, though, and tried the run once again.

This time the pass came and Vlahovic controlled it, rounded the keeper and scored in three touches. It was lethal and exactly the kind of movement Liverpool love when they’re going direct.

His second was another Liverpool-esque goal. Milan had the game back to 3-2 but Fiorentina pressed very high. Vlahovic was a part of that, putting pressure on the goalkeeper.

Eventually, Theo Hernandez lost the ball near the edge of his own box. Vlahovic quickly pounced on it and fired an early shot into the far corner.

Runs in behind and strikes from counter-pressing – Liverpool through and through.

The Reds do need to look at their next-generation up top as Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino move past 30 in 2022. With his goals on Saturday against Milan, Vlahovic made a wonderful case to be Liverpool’s long-term future.
