Here are our picks for Liverpool’s three best players from their 4-0 win v Arsenal. The Reds ran riot at Anfield.
We thought Thiago could be important here and that proved the case. He was the perfect player to beat the Gunners. Arsenal’s recent run against possession teams may look alright in terms of points but they struggle to control games.
Thiago, then, is the last player they want to see. He can control a midfield on his own, while he’s the Premier League’s best player for progressive passes.
We saw that on show at Anfield as he continuously made himself a midfield option. Some of his forward passes were fantastic as he really ran the show.
A tremendous player who might be slowly reaching his best form again.
A world-class defensive midfield display. Fabinho – who was a minor doubt for this one – performed his role to perfection.
He won tackles in the middle and recycled possession as well as you’d expect. But it was Fabinho sweeping up behind on counter-attacks and pressing hard that really caught the eye.
It’s hardly a secret that Fabinho is something special but he’s arguably the ‘star’ who flies under the radar more. Liverpool have a remarkable player here, though, and one who didn’t give Arsenal an inch today.
We could have chosen several players here but we’ll go with the Scouser. Alexander-Arnold had a near-perfect game.
Arsenal created nothing down his side, for starters, while his delivery for the first goal was magnificent. The second half was all about pressing and bombing on down that flank.
He played a huge role in winning the ball back quickly as the Gunners tried to play out from the back. It eventually led to an unbelievably good cross for Takumi Minamino to make it 4-0 for Liverpool v Arsenal.
Brilliant from Alexander-Arnold. Unquestionably the world’s best.
