PSG are closing in on a deal for Liverpool transfer target Franck Kessie, according to reports. This is one the Reds may need to move on from.
This comes from Foot Mercato. They claim that Paris Saint-Germain are seriously pushing to sign Franck Kessie.
The Ivorian is out of contract with AC Milan at the end of the season, making him a very tempting signing for many. After all, Kessie enjoyed a fantastic campaign in Serie A last season as they qualified for the Champions League.
But things are falling apart between the player and his club. Kessie looks certain to leave after rejecting Milan’s latest offer of around £5.7m per year.
The 24-year-old wants closer to £7.5m and that’s something PSG are supposedly willing to give him. They’re even in discussions with Milan over bringing the transfer forward to January.
PSG close in on Kessie
It’s one that makes sense, too. Liverpool lost Gini Wijnaldum – to PSG, funnily enough – but didn’t replace him. Kessie is well-placed as an all-action midfielder who could step into the Dutchman’s shoes.
But as ever, PSG’s interest makes things incredibly difficult. They quite clearly value Kessie highly and are willing to give him what he wants.
We can’t imagine Liverpool would do the same. PSG may be okay with paying £145k each week to someone who doesn’t necessarily make their starting XI. The Reds won’t be.
That’s just one of many differences between the two clubs and, honestly, it’s one we wouldn’t really argue with. Kessie would be a fine signing but we imagine PSG would simply up their offer to beat what Liverpool put on the table.
We can probably move on from this one.
