'The best player'; Agent of Luis Diaz openly addresses Liverpool reports

Liverpool supposedly want Luis Diaz in the transfer window and his agent isn’t exactly surprised. The FC Porto winger is in fantastic form this season.

Portuguese outlet Jornal de Notícias claims Liverpool have eyes on Luis Diaz. Jurgen Klopp sees him as an ideal January signing, capable of covering the absences of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.

That duo – who also happen to be Liverpool’s top scorers – will both depart this winter to feature at the Africa Cup of Nations. That will leave the Reds very light.

Diaz could be the answer to Liverpool’s problem, then. He’d apparently cost around £67m to sign in January – a sign of just how highly regarded the Colombian is.

His agent recently talked about the supposed interest, saying “it’s normal” for big clubs to be looking at his client.

“Chelsea and Liverpool interest rumours? It’s normal,” he told Radio Renascença, per Fabrizio Romano. “If a player plays well, if he starts to stand out, if the majority considers him the best player in the Portuguese League… it’s normal.”

Will Liverpool move for Luis Diaz?

Diaz is enjoying a tremendous season so far, with nine goals and two assists in 11 Primeira Liga games. It’s hard to argue that he’s the best player in Portugal right now.

Doing all of that from the left wing is pretty special and if Liverpool want elite quality to cover Mane and Salah, Diaz is a real option. Even if he is very expensive.

We think it can work long-term, too. Mane could fall into a more versatile role, allowing Diaz to play from the left even when the others return.

But this all comes down to the same thing – would Liverpool actually spend that much money? £67m is a lot, especially in the January window.

We won’t hold our breath but if Liverpool are desperate and see Diaz as a perfect signing, it is possible. Again, though, it seems a little outlandish.
