Report: Liverpool interested in Denis Zakaria but Barcelona could win the transfer race

According to a report from La Gazetta dello Sport (print edition, page 20, November 14, 2021), Liverpool are interested in signing Denis Zakaria.

The Swiss midfielder is a part of the thrilling Borussia Monchengladbach side that dismantled Bayern Munich in the DFP Pokal second round, running riot in a 5-0 counter-attacking masterclass at Borussia Park.

His role in the side is not too dissimilar from the one that Wijnaldum was excellent in for Liverpool. Zakaria is trusted to win the ball back and move it swiftly to help spark a counterattack.

As he and his teammates showed against Bayern, with Breel Embolo and Ramy Bensebaini shining as well.

According to La Gazetta dello Sport, Liverpool are interested in bringing Zakaria to Anfield while Juventus are also keen on signing the 24-year-old but it’s Barcelona that he prefers.

He reportedly favours a move to Camp Nou but hasn’t closed the door to a move to the Premier League and he would be the perfect replacement for Wijnaldum.

My Revenge On Ben Foster

He’s a slightly more defensive player than Gini was but just like the Dutch international, he’s so good at bursting through midfield with pace and power.

He joined Monchengladbach in 2017 and his contract expires in 7 months which makes him an ideal target for Liverpool because he’s got major potential, has the physique to cope in the robust Premier League, has been fantastic on the international stage for Switzerland and is still only 24.

Signing him for around £25million would be a bargain but to get him for free would be even sweeter especially if Liverpool can leave Juventus and Barcelona in their dust.
