Paul Glatzel got his first senior goals for Tranmere Rovers on Tuesday evening, prompting some fans to celebrate. The 20-year-old proved to be a matchwinner.
Tuesday night was one to remember for Paul Glatzel. He started for Tranmere Rovers against Oldham Athletic and scored twice in a 3-2 EFL Trophy win.
These were important goals, too. Oldham took a 2-0 lead away from home but Glatzel pulled one back right before half-time. A Nicky Maynard equaliser set the scene in the second half as Glatzel won the game with 15 to play.
Glatzel is currently on loan at Tranmere from Liverpool for his first taste of senior football. The youngster hadn’t been able to find the net before Tuesday – though, he did return to score for the Under 23s last month.
But this was the big one. Glatzel didn’t just get off the mark but he grabbed two. Not only did he grab two, but he won the game for Tranmere.
It’s a dream night, then, and one both Tranmere and Liverpool dreamed of. Understandably, some Rovers fans took to Twitter to celebrate the moment.
Paul Glatzel scores for Tranmere
It’s wonderful to see Glatzel get deserved praise from Tranmere fans here. Arriving from Liverpool isn’t easy – there’s a certain reputation there, especially when you’re a known goalscorer.
But he’s really gone and shown what he’s capable of. As we say, he’s turned matchwinner and that’s just so much more valuable than simply tapping one into the net.
Tellingly, there are plenty of fans saying they saw this coming after Glatzel appeared to gain confidence in a Cheshire Senior Cup match for Tranmere. Perhaps this could be a sign of things really clicking for the 20-year-old.
And if anyone from Liverpool’s academy deserves for things to click, it’s Glatzel. Injuries have been horrible to him over the last couple of seasons, severely interrupting his momentum.
Maybe, though, he’s finally finding that momentum at senior level.
